Milwaukee Brewers rising star Jackson Chourio is coming for a strong 2024 campaign in which he was a rookie of the year finalist. The 20-year-old also showcased his talent in the postseason, setting the stage for a bright future. Despite his impressive achievements, Chourio has chosen to participate in the Venezuelan Winter League, with his manager offering a cautious nod of approval for his decision.
Who will Jackson Chourio be playing for in the Venezuelan Winter League?
Jackson Chourio will be playing for the Aguilas Del Zulia (Zuila Eagles). This team is located in Maracaibo, Venezuela and marks the city in which Chourio was born. On Instagram, Chourio indicated that it is with great pride that he will play for them again this Winter, but only for a portion of the season. Chourio has played with the Eagles every winter since 2021.
Should the Milwaukee Brewers be concerned about Jackson Chourio playing Winter baseball?
The biggest risk with players participating in baseball outside of the MLB season is injury. Last winter the New York Mets lost prospect Ronny Mauricio for the entire 2024 regular season due to an ACL injury sustained during winter ball. Additionally, during the last World Baseball Classic Jose Altuve fractured his thumb and that sidelined him for the beginning portion of the MLB regular season.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy gave Jackson Chourio a cautious nod of approval to play baseball this winter
At MLB Winter Meetings, Pat Murphy talked about Jackson Chourio participating in the Venezuelan Winter League. Murphy gave Chourio a cautious nod of approval by saying, “I love it, I like that he has that desire to play. He enjoys doing it. He will be close to his family and that pleases me. For now what I want is for him to stay healthy and be able to get that itch out of his system. He really wants to play there.”
