The Milwaukee Brewers started the 2025 MLB regular season with a 4-2 loss against the New York Yankees on Thursday. Prior to the game, ESPN’s broadcast gave an emotional tribute to long-time Brewers radio voice Bob Uecker, who passed away at the age of 90 this past January. And while there are still 161 more games remaining in the season, Milwaukee’s performance, overall, left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans who had been anticipating regular season baseball for months.
3 Studs from the Milwaukee Brewers Loss to the New York Yankees

Despite the frustrating loss, there were still multiple Brewers players who did just about everything they could possibly do to help the team pull out a victory. Unfortunately, their heroics were not enough.
Freddy Peralta
Starting on Opening Day for the second consecutive year, Freddy Peralta pitched a fairly decent game, certainly one worthy of a win. Unfortunately, the short porch in the new Yankees Stadium allowed two fly ball to go over the wall for solo home runs. According to stadium data, the Yankees’ home stadium is the only Major League park in which those two home runs would have gone out.
Besides those two home runs, Peralta had a good day. He finished with five innings pitched, four hits, one walk, and two runs allowed, and eight strikeouts.
Vinny Capra
After making his first ever Opening Day roster, Vinny Capra followed it up by hitting his first Major League home run, a solo shot in the in the top of the third inning that made the score 2-1.
Capra, a right-handed hitter, got the start at third base against New York left Carlos Rodon. He is the sixth different Brewers player to start at third base in the last six seasons.
Joey Ortiz
Last season, Joey Ortiz emerged as Milwaukee’s everyday third baseman after the position was platooned by multiple players early in the year. Now, he is the starting shortstop, sliding over to replace former fan-favorite Willy Adames.
Ortiz played a clean game defensively and went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of singles. He also scored a run in the Brewers’ failed ninth inning rally on a Brice Turang sacrifice fly.
Three Duds from the Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day Loss to the New York Yankees

We’ll make this section short and sweet: the duds are Milwaukee’s first three hitters. Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich, and William Contreras combined to go 0-13 with eight strikeouts and a walk.
Chourio became just the third player in the history of Major League baseball to strike out five times in a nine inning game. Yelich got on base once via walk, but struck out against former Brewers closer Devin Williams to end the game in the ninth.
It’s just one of 161. Hopefully the Brewers can bounce back on Saturday when former Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes takes the mound for them in his old stomping grounds.
