The Milwaukee Brewers don’t hit for power, or so fans were led to believe. They lost first baseman Rhys Hoskins to a thumb injury. Then Jackson Chourio strained his hamstring; including Jake Bauers, the Brewers have 34 homeruns sequestered on the injured list.
They didn’t add a bat at the trade deadline, unless you count Brandon Lockridge and his zero homeruns.
And yet the Brewers keep on hitting, and hitting for power too. So far this month, it’s second baseman Brice Turang doing the heavy lifting – not that anyone expected him to.
Then again, is it really a surprise? It is the Brewers, after all. No doubt, the self-proclaimed Power of Friendship squad is putting that slogan into practice.

Brice Turang long bombs? The ghost of Eric Thames? What will these Brewers do next?
So, yes, Turang, of all hitters, is on a tear. In 10 games, the scrappy second baseman is tied for most homeruns in the majors this month. His mark of six total is one fewer than he had in a full 2024 season. Yesterday, dealing with discomfort in his pinky finger, he launched one off Pirates ace Paul Skenes, who entered the game having allowed just seven all year.
The Brewers’ WAR leader (4.0), Turang is up to 12 homeruns in 2025, one shy of his career total before this season in 292 games. For the moment, his 56 RBIs ranks third on the team. The 2024 Gold Glover has boosted his slashline to .278/.344/.411, while maintaining his usual outstanding defense. He also has 21 steals.
All this and Turang typically bats in the bottom third, no higher than sixth, in the Brewers’ order. Even Milwaukee fans are liable to underestimate his value. Brice Turang has a higher WAR than Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, or Freddy Peralta?

It’s true. Amidst the 11-game win streak – the current one – Turang has helped sustain a torrid offense whose only true power hitters this season have been Yelich, who leads the team with 23 homers and 78 driven in, and Andrew Vaughn.
But others are picking it up in the power department. Dating back to July 30, catcher William Contreras has authored a six-homer stretch of his own after being hampered by a finger injury for four months.
Center fielder Blake Perkins, who has no business leaving the yard, hit three during Milwaukee’s two series against the Nationals and Braves to begin the month. Vaughn hit another one on Tuesday, giving him eight homeruns and 32 RBIs since joining the Brewers a week before the All-Star break. Yelich is batting .366/.458/.610 in August.
It would remiss not to name rookie Isaac Collins as well, MLB’s most recent Player of the Week.

Despite the injuries, despite doing nothing for the offense at the deadline, the Brewers have surged instead of slowed – all the way up to second in runs per game, behind only the Dodgers. Third in batting average and on-base percentage. Second in steals. 10th in OPS. In a remarkably short time, they have gone from bottom eight in homeruns to 18th.
Yeah, “Brice Turang” being tied for the month’s most homeruns will do that. Kinda crazy.
