Prior to the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals rubber match on Wednesday, August 2 the Brew Crew made a roster move. Coming off of the 15-day injured list is left-handed starting pitcher Wade Miley and being optioned down to Triple-A is Owen Miller.

Milwaukee Brewers roster moves prior to series finale against Washington Nationals: Wade Miley activated, Owen Miller optioned.
Wade Miley was placed on the 15-day IL following a bullpen session in which he experienced increased elbow discomfort. The start prior he had thrown six scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds. This season Miley has made 13 starts for Milwaukee, has a 3.06 ERA, and has a 1.15 WHIP. Hopefully the 36 year old can remain healthy over the next few months of the season.
Heading down to Triple-A is Wisconsin native Owen Miller. The utility infielder had played his way into regular playing time earlier in the season by collecting a ton of base hits. He then took over first base when Rowdy Tellez was placed on the IL, but with Carlos Santana joining the team Miller found himself the odd man out.
Aside from struggling at the plate in July to the tune of a .178/.213/.247 line over 80 plate appearances, another contributing factor to Owen Miller being the player optioned down is because Andruw Monasterio is playing very well at third base. The rookie is playing great defense and contributing on offense. Once Brian Anderson returns from a back injury it will be interesting to see what the Brewers do at the hot corner.
