Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy went viral for Friday’s “pocket pancake” revelation, the latest quirky addition to the reservoir of Murph lore. Any cold pizza left out in the hotel? He’ll take some of that too.
After a weekend sweep in Washington, newcomer Brandon Lockridge shared one piece of insight he’s gleaned since joining the Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers’ Pat Murphy experience is something new for Lockridge
The only non-pitcher among Milwaukee’s trade deadline adds, Lockridge has appeared in every game so far, twice as a starter. He didn’t do much in San Diego this season, but he’s brewing a good start to his next chapter. Lockridge is now 4-11 with three runs scored and four RBIs in Milwaukee.

With Jackson Chourio out injured for what looks like a while, the rookie outfielder has helped mitigate the blow in the early going. As a whole, albeit against the lowly Nationals, the Brewers scored 38 runs on 56 hits in their first series after the deadline. No power bat? With a two-homer game apiece, Blake Perkins and Brice Turang say Hold my beer.
As for Lockridge, he has become quickly acquainted with his new manager’s tics:
Brandon Lockridge said he’s learned to expect the unexpected with the Brewers. How so?
“Some of Murph’s comments…I’ve heard some really interesting things come out of his mouth mid-game.”
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) August 3, 2025
Spearheading a group that runs on spunk, Murphy already made headlines this season for his bold postgame comments following Milwaukee’s season series sweep of the Dodgers. What wry remarks does he make uncensored in the dugout? Is “really interesting” some kind of euphemism? If Murphy cracks jokes as deadpan as his snack tutorial, it has to be hilarious for players.

Especially newbies. In the coming weeks, there’s no reason Lockridge shouldn’t continue getting chances. If not in the starting lineup, he can also serve as a pinch runner or defensive replacement. He’s wasted no time learning the clubhouse ropes. The longer he spends around Murphy and the guys, random absurdity should seem a little less bizarre.
Or not. If his manager’s mouth is anything like his pockets, what comes out next is anyone’s guess.
