The Milwaukee Brewers past Memorial Day on top of the National League Central standings. They have been in control of the division for essentially the entire season for as of June 2 they had spent 61 days in first place. Between looking like a playoff team and the calendar switching to June some discussions can start to be made about what positions they should look to upgrade at prior to the July 30 trade deadline.
Starting pitching is one position the Milwaukee Brewers should look to upgrade at.

In years past the Brewers had a feared trio of Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta at the head of their starting rotation. Burnes has since been traded, Woodruff won’t pitch this year due to undergoing off-season shoulder surgery, and Peralta has been shaky at times (currently has a 3.74 ERA).
So far this year Milwaukee has a team starting pitching ERA of 4.14 (ranked 17th in the league). Colin Rea, Bryse Wilson, and Tobias Myers have all consumed some innings. Robert Gasser has been incredible through his first five big league starts, but what they really need is a major difference maker in the starting rotation. This would be someone who they can feel comfortable giving the ball to in a big playoff game.
One MLB Insider linked the New York Mets as a source of starting pitching that the Milwaukee Brewers could explore pursuing.

On the MLB Insiders Podcast with Robert Murray he discussed the Brewers need for starting pitching. He also acknowledged that the Mets are actively shopping and with David Stearns knowledge of Milwaukee’s organizational depth that there is the potential for a deal to get done there. New Brewers GM Matt Arnold already struck a trade with David Stearns during the off-season as New York got Tyrone Taylor and Adrian Houser in exchange for a minor league pitcher.
Which New York Mets starting pitchers are available for trade?

Per Bob Nightengale there are three starting pitchers on the Mets that are actively being shopped. They are Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Quintana. RHP Severino and LHP Quintana are both on one year, $13 million deals whereas Manaea has a $13.5 million player option for 2025. This year Severino has a 3.52 ERA (11 GS), Manaea 3.63 (11 GS), and Quintana 5.17 ERA (12 GS).
Outside of the Mets asking price one question the Brewers would have to ask themselves is if any of these three starting pitchers would move the needle for their team. As mentioned they have pitching depth and what they really need is a top end quality arm who can be trusted in the post season.
