The Milwaukee Brewers have a new weapon on the mound in the form of Nestor Cortes, who was acquired by the team via a trade with the New York Yankees in December. Cortes along with shortstop Caleb Durbin and some cash were sent by the Yankees to Milwaukee in exchange for star closer Devin Williams.
While the start of the 2025 MLB season is months away, Cortes is already starting to get in shape in preparation for Spring Training and for his first season with the Brewers. In a recent post on Instagram, the 30-year-old Cortes shared a video showing him doing an intense workout in the gym.

Nestor Cortes is thrilled to be with the Milwaukee Brewers
Cortes, who earned an All-Star nod in 2022 with the Yankees, is looking to make a strong impression right away with his new team. In what turned out to be his final season with New York in 2024, Cortes went 9-10 with a 3.77 ERA and 3.84 FIP along with a 109 ERA+ through 31 appearances (30 starts).
“I’m excited about this opportunity,” Cortes said following his trade to the Brewers last December (h/t Adam McCalvy of MLB.com). “You look at the Brewers and they’ve been in contention for a long time. … That’s exciting, especially with the young group that they have. I feel like I can bring something to the table for them.”
Cortes joins a Brewers pitching staff that was just 17th in the big leagues in 2024 with a starters ERA of 4.09.
