Sunday, the Milwaukee Brewers called up Logan Henderson to take the injured Jacob Misiorowski’s place in the rotation, after Henderson spent all of June and July at Triple-A. Milwaukee’s farm system will now welcome a new face, the team announced Monday, in Marlins’ reliever Austin Roberts.
Milwaukee Brewers’ latest move isn’t anything to get excited about, just some organizational housekeeping
Roberts, 27, had a rough go with Triple-A Jacksonville in Miami’s system, allowing a 4.67 ERA in 34.2 innings while walking nearly five batters per nine. The righty reliever was much better last year between Jacksonville and Double-A. Posting a 2.28 ERA in 67 innings, Roberts surrendered the same number of hits, 34, as he has so far this season. He recorded a K/BB ratio near three; in 2025, it’s been below two.

Taken by Pittsburgh in the 8th round of the 2019 June Amateur Draft, Roberts has gone six seasons without breaking the big leagues. His first Triple-A promotion came in 2021, in the Pirates organization, but he hasn’t been able to stick, bouncing bouncing between the upper levels for the past four years.
Walks were an issue at Jacksonville last season, as Roberts again teetered at 5 BB/9, but he also limited the damage a lot more effectively than he has this year. He saved 17 games between AA and AAA.
In the minors he has worked almost exclusively as a reliever; the last time he regularly took the mound as a starter came at Sacramento State, where he spent three seasons from 2017-2019. In his minor league career, he has a 4.00 ERA in 335.1 innings with 401 Ks.

Acquired for cash considerations, Roberts seems likely to end up in Nashville in the Brewers’ second-ranked pipeline, where he would fill Henderson’s roster spot, unless they start him a level below. Because he was not on Miami’s 40-man roster, he could be dealt after the MLB trade deadline passed. While he isn’t ready for The Show, he’s also aging out of Double-A. He did not allow an earned run in six innings there earlier this year and has little more to prove at that level. Presumably, Roberts will join the Sounds for depth purposes – someone has to fill those innings.

Once there, he would join Brewers starters Tobias Myers and rookie Chad Patrick, who are both biding their time there awaiting the next callup.
The big leaguers stand in for first pitch in Atlanta tonight at 6:15 PM CT.
