The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to find their rhythm again after a hot start to the season. Despite a rough month of May, the team is still in first place in the NL Central. The Brewers have been bitten by the injury bug which certainly does not help the offense, but today they reinstated Luis Urías from the IL while placing Darin Ruf on the 60-day IL. They also optioned Mike Brosseau to Tiple-A Nashville.
Luis Urías Reinstated
Luis Urías has been one of the keys to the Brewers’ offense the last two seasons. He had a down year last season, but when he’s hot he is one of the best hitters on the team. Urías sustained a hamstring injury during the Brewers season opener in Chicago. He began his rehab assignment in Nashville on May 24th, and it was expected that he would join the team to start the homestand. However, he has been reinstated and will join the team for their series finale against the Reds.
Darin Ruf Transferred to the 60-Day IL
Darin Ruf was brought on to the team to help with the team’s struggles against left-handed pitching. Ruf has been good against lefties throughout the course of his career and was doing fine on the Brewers. However, Ruf exited the game on Friday after running into the tarp tracking a ball in foul territory. He appeared to be bleeding and was pulled from the game. The Brewers have placed him on the IL with a right patella fracture.
Mike Brosseau Optioned to Triple-A Nashville
Mike Brosseau has not seen much playing time this year despite all the injuries the Brewers have dealt with. He has had struggles defensively outside of his struggles at the plate. His option opens up a spot on the Brewers roster since there has been no corresponding move at this time. It is possible that the Brewers will not make a move until tomorrow when they could reinstate Willy Adames. Brosseau is hitting just .205 this year.
