The Milwaukee Brewers are just three days away from Opening Day and their roster is starting to come into view. This morning, Adam McCalvy of mlb.com broke the news that the Brewers made several intriguing roster moves for the beginning of the 2023 season. Among these, Luke Voit was signed to a one-year contract and Keston Hiura was designated for assignment. Additionally, star prospect Sal Frelick was sent to minor league camp.
Brewers moves:
1B Luke Voit signed to a 1-year contract with a club option for 2024.
INF Keston Hiura designated for assignment.
INF Abraham Toro optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
OF Sal Frelick reassigned to Minor League camp.

Last week, the Brewers informed Hiura that he did not make the team. He is out of minor league options, so he had to be designated for assignment. It appears the Brewers were unable to find a suitable trade partner in the days that followed their decision.
What These Moves Mean for the Rest of the Milwaukee Brewers Roster
Voit will undoubtedly be the right-handed alternate first baseman behind lefty Rowdy Tellez. He will probably also see some time as designated hitter. Voit was enamored with Milwaukee all through camp and was hoping the Brewers would add him to their 40-man roster. The team’s deadline to do so was pushed back with Voit’s consent earlier this spring.
Abraham Toro was acquired by the Brewers in the trade that sent Kolten Wong to the Seattle Mariners. Jesse Winker also came to Milwaukee in that trade. His assignment to Triple-A Nashville means that prospect Brice Turang has made the team’s Opening Day roster. Turang has yet to make his Major League debut.
Sal Frelick is arguably the Brewers’ best outfield prospect. However, Christian Yelich and Garrett Mitchell are both left-handed hitting outfielders. Frelick’s current assignment may mean that right-handed hitting Joey Wiemer is going to make the Opening Day roster as well.

Kolten Wong was sent to Seattle, not Keston.
