The Milwaukee Brewers‘ farm system is stacked with impressive talent. While player development is rarely a straight path, recent cases like Jackson Chourio, Jacob Misiorowski, Craig Yoho, Jesus Made, Luis Peña, and even Sal Frelick during his prospect days, have made it look almost seamless at times.
One prospect who’s experienced his share of ups and downs is 20-year-old outfielder Luis Lara. His stock soared in 2023 after an impressive campaign as a teenager, slashing .286/.373/.359 across Low-A and High-A. But just as quickly as he rose, he took a step back in 2024, with a down year that was overshadowed by the emergence of other fast-rising talents in the Brewers system.
Now in Double-A, Lara is once again making a name for himself. He recently surpassed both the 30 extra-base hit and 30 stolen base marks this season, an achievement that places him in elite company and reaffirms his status as a prospect to watch.
Milwaukee Brewers prospect Luis Lara joins elite company with 30 XBH/30 SB season

Biloxi Shuckers play-by-play announcer and media member Javik Blake recently posted on Lara surpassing the 30 XBH/30 SB marks. When you filter age into this equation, Blake pointed out that Lara is just the eighth player under the age of 21 to do this since the year 2005. The last of course was done by Jackson Chourio, but others include Bo Bichette in 2018, Mike Trout in 2011, and Carlos Gomez in 2006.

Blake took his research further by pointing out that of this list, Lara is just the third player to accomplish this in Double-A. The others to have a 30 XBH and 3 SB season in Double-A were Bo Bichette and Brett Lawrie.

As of August 25, Lara’s extra base hit totals have risen past 30 and currently stand at 30 doubles, three triples, and one home run. His stolen base mark is at 35, which is 10 shy of his career best that was established a season ago.
