The Milwaukee Brewers are 58-40 and on a nine-game winning streak, set to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the final time of the 2025 MLB regular season on Sunday afternoon. Should they win, it will be the first time that Milwaukee would sweep the season series against Los Angeles, having previously swept them at home at American Family Field before the All-Star Break.
But if the Brewers are going to continue their winning ways, they will have to do so without one of their key reserve bats, a player that has filled in when needed and has come up big in key moments.
The Milwaukee Brewers Recall Tyler Black as Jake Bauers Goes on the 10-Day IL

Prior to the start of the game on Sunday, the Brewers announced that backup first baseman and outfielder Jake Bauers was going on the 10-day injured list with a shoulder impingement. Tyler Black, who made his Major League debut for Milwaukee in 2024, but has not appeared in the Big Leagues yet this year, was called up from Triple-A to replace him:

Bauers is hitting just .197/.318/.354 with five home runs and 18 RBI, but has proven to be a bat that the Brewers can rely on in big moments. Fans may recall his clutch home run in the postseason last year that, while the game ended in a loss, was one of the defining moments of 2024.
Black only recently returned to play for the Nashville Sounds after starting the season on the injured list. In 34 games in the minors this year, he is hitting .242/.359/.383 with three home runs and 22 RBI.
As mentioned, Bauers is oftentimes used as an outfielder, playing either left or right. Black, too, is a left-handed hitting first baseman who has seen playing time in left field.
His promotion, despite his light hitting numbers so far, makes all the sense in the world.
