Milwaukee Brewers: Jacob Misiorowski’s Fired Up Admission About Facing Shohei Ohtani

If people didn’t know who Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski was, they likely do now, following the spectacular performance he put together Tuesday evening against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But the night didn’t start exactly in Misiorowski’s favor, as he immediately got victimized by Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who launched a huge 431-foot blast in the first at-bat of the contest.

Ohtani took strikes in the first two pitches from Misiorowski before taking the pitcher’s curveball deep for a solo home run that put Los Angeles ahead right away. That homer also had historic meaning, as it set a new Dodgers franchise record for most home runs prior to the MLB All-Star break.

Misiorowski, however, did not let that misstep define the rest of his night. In fact, that turned out to be the only run scored by the Dodgers, as Misiorowski allowed just four hits and a walk while recording 12 strikeouts through six innings.

The 23-year-old Misiorowski opened up about facing Ohtani following the Brewers’ 3-1 victory over the reigning World Series champions.

“It’s Shohei Ohtani,” Misiorowski said (h/t Steve Megargee of the Associated Press). “You kind of expect (that). It’s cool to see him do it in action, but it fires me up even more coming back the next at bat and striking him out. I’m right there. I think it was a moment of like, ‘OK, now we go.’”

Although Ohtani got the better of Misiorowski in the first inning, he struck out at the hands of the pitcher in the third inning. The 2024 National League Most Valuable Player also drew a walk against Misiorowski in the sixth inning after a seven-pitch battle.
