The Milwaukee Brewers could not pull off a come from behind victory on opening day against the New York Yankees as they lost by a score of 4-2. They did get the tying run into scoring position, but the game ended on back-to-back strike outs from Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich while facing former teammate Devin Williams.
Unfortunate as the ending to game one of 162 was, Milwaukee also found themselves on the wrong side of two pieces of opening day history.
New York Yankees catcher makes opening day history

Facing Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta to begin the new season was Yankees lead off hitter Austin Wells. On the third pitch of the at-bat he hit a home run ball just over the short porch in right field. This long ball was only a home run in Yankee stadium, but it did make history as Wells became the first catcher to ever hit a leadoff home run in MLB history.
Milwaukee Brewers leadoff hitter Jackson Chourio also made history

Opening day was a tough day at the office for Brewers leadoff hitter Jackson Chourio. He finished the game 0-5 with five strikeouts. Prior to today, no Milwaukee batter had ever struck out five times on opening day.
