It seems that the Milwaukee Brewers can’t catch a break with players heading to the injury list. Just hours after announcing they’ve traded minor league infielder Gregory Berrios for RHP starting pitcher Aaron Civale, the crew came to Twitter (X) to provide some injury updates and roster moves.
Milwaukee Brewers place Joey Ortiz on 10-Day IL
Just as he was getting hot, his flame was put out. The Brewers announced on Wednesday ahead of their game against the Colorado Rockies that infielder Joey Ortiz was heading to the injury list with neck inflammation, retroactive to July 2.
Ortiz was out of the lineup on Tuesday in Milwaukee’s win, but these neck problems have caused the rookie to be in and out of the lineup over this past week. Prior to his injury, Ortiz was hitting .269/.373/.444 with an OPS of .817, seven homeruns, 28 driven in, and five stolen bases in 74 games.
RHP Enoli Paredes was also placed on the 15-Day IL with right forearm tendinitis. In a corresponding move, INF Vinny Capra and RHP Janson Junk were recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Even though Ortiz went on the IL, the Brewers do have a third-baseman in Andruw Monasterio, who’s slashing .196/.297/.286 with an OPS of .583, one homer and six RBIs in 26 games this season.
