It’s been seven months since words were said by William Contreras against JD Martinez but their dynamics will still be interesting to see in case they become teammates with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Contreras is among the key players for the Brewers this season while Martinez is a free agent that some analysts see as a perfect addition for the up-and-coming Milwaukee team.
The 37-year-old designated hitter, name to the All-Star six times, is being viewed as a replacement for Willy Adames who signed a seven-year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants this month.
According to Patrick McAvoy of the Sports Illustrated, Martinez will be a good signing on both the economic- and needs- stand point.
One who should be considered above all else is six-time All-Star JD Martinez. He is 37 years old so he won’t cost much at this point in his career but he is still a capable hitter. He had 16 home runs and 69 RBIs in 2024 with the New York Mets. The season before he was an All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers when he hit 33 home runs and drove in 103 runs.
Martinez is projected to get a one-year, $9.5 million deal this offseason by Spotrac. If the Brewers want to add a boost at designated hitter, Martinez should be the guy. He’s out there now and is available in free agency.
What’s the issue between William Contreras and JD Martinez?
It is not an issue Williams is directly connected with. It his brother Willison who is involved.
Martinez, who was still playing for New York Mets before deciding to become a free agent, was accused of hitting the older Contreras playing for the St. Louis Cardinals.
The play occurred on a May game when Martinez was at-bat and the Cardinals catcher player behind him. The former hit the catch on the arm and was diagnosed later on with a fractured right arm.
“That happened last year at Dodger Stadium. Same guy hit me two times in the same game,” he said. “I’m sorry for my brother,” he said when asked about his brother’s injury.
Martinez’s time with the Brewers will be interesting if he gets signed.
