The Milwaukee Brewers are poised to have one of the most exciting outfields in the Majors in 2025. Jackson Chourio, the generational talent that took the second half by storm in 2024, is coming off of a monster spring that has seen him hit .477/.511/.659 with seven RBI. Last year, he became the youngest player in Major League Baseball history to have a 20-20 season.
2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich has returned following season-ending back surgery that limited him to just 75 games in 2024. When he was healthy, Yelich hit .315/.406/.504 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, and 21 stolen bases while getting voted as an All-Star starter for the first time (it was his third overall appearance in the All-Star Game).
This spring, he is hitting .311/.355/.655 with three home runs and nine RBI.
And yet, as fantasy baseball drafts commence, a different Brewers outfielder is getting some buzz.
Milwaukee Brewers Centerfielder Garrett Mitchell Is Among the Most Drafted Outfielders in Fantasy Baseball

While Chourio and Yelich are undoubtedly top outfielders and would be great additions to any fantasy baseball team, it is centerfielder Garrett Mitchell who is quickly getting recognition as a player that fantasy manager should make sure is on their roster.
Matthew Pouliout of NBC Sports recently contributed to an article about the most-drafted players in fantasy baseball this spring. Of Mitchell, he wrote:
“Injuries have hindered Mitchell’s development, but even so, he’s thus far hit .264 with 13 homers and 20 steals in 365 plate appearances as a major leaguer. The Brewers are counting on him as their regular center fielder and will likely start out with him batting no lower than fifth against righties.
“Mitchell still needs to work on shedding some strikeouts, but continued health and everyday at-bats will likely help there. He has top-notch bat speed, and he doesn’t often chase bad pitches. There’s sufficient five-category potential to make him a top-25 fantasy outfielder this year, yet he can still be had at the end of mixed-league drafts.”
Mitchell is having a decent spring for Milwaukee, hitting .256/.347/.395 with a home run and six RBI in 15 games. He has also stolen three bases.
With Blake Perkins out for the start of the year with a fractured shin, Mitchell will certainly be getting plenty of playing time in center field. That is, as long as he stays healthy.
The former first round pick slid all the way down to the Brewers with the 15th overall pick because teams were worried about his injury history and the fact that he is diabetic. While his diabetes has not hindered him at all in the Majors, he has had some of the worst luck when it comes to freak injuries.
In 2023, he appeared in just 19 games after tearing up his shoulder sliding into third base. Last spring, he suffered a fractured thumb that forced him to start the season in the injured list. He ended up playing in 69 games, hitting .255/.342/.469 with eight home runs, 21 RBI, and 11 stolen bases.
There is no doubt that Mitchell can be an exciting and productive outfielder who also excels on defense. However, he has yet to prove that he can stay healthy for a full season.
