Milwaukee Brewers opening day starting pitcher Freddy Peralta made his final start of the 2024 regular season on Wednesday, September 25 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He ended up throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs, and striking out seven. In this outing he also reached 200 strikeouts on the season and joined a short list of players in franchise history with multiple seasons of 200 strikeouts.

Entering his final outing of the regular season Freddy Peralta sat at 193 strikeouts. He ended up striking out seven batters and reaching the 200 strikeouts milestone. His first six strikeouts came rather quickly, but the last one took some patience as with two outs in the fifth he ended up walking multiple batters and allowing a go-ahead double that plated the Pirates only two runs of the game. Peralta then came out for the sixth inning and got Bryan Reynolds out swinging on the ninth pitch of the at-bat and Peralta’s 96th pitch of the evening.

In franchise history the only other Brewers pitchers to have multiple seasons of 200 strikeouts are Teddy Higuera, Corbin Burnes, and Yovani Gallardo. Ben Sheets, who battled injuries throughout his career, had just one season of 200+ strikeouts (264) and his next closest season topped out at 170 punch outs. Brandon Woodruff also currently has just one 200 strikeout season as he fell 10 short of 200 in 2022.
