For the last several weeks, the Milwaukee Brewers had been one of many teams linked to Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suarez in trade rumors. Those rumblings can now come to an end, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that Suarez is heading back to Seattle in a reunion with the Mariners.
Certainly his bat that could help any lineup, but having avoided a Suarez-sized shakeup, the Brewers can keep chugging along without overpaying for a two-month rental or booting rookie Caleb Durbin from his position at third.
Seattle has every right to celebrate, but Brewers may have dodged one
Over in the American League, Seattle and Texas are battling for that third and final wild card spot. Adding Suarez will provide a jolt to the Mariners lineup and materially boost their prospects in a razor-thin race.

So far this season, his 12th in the big leagues, Suarez has hit 36 homeruns with 87 RBIs while slashing .248/.320/.576.
He previously spent 2022 and 2023 in Seattle before joining Arizona. With two months to go, he is on pace to break the career-high 49 dingers he hit in 2019 with the Reds.
After leaving Monday’s game against the Tigers when he took a pitch to the hand, he sat out the next day but returned to the lineup on Wednesday – what looks his last appearance in a Diamondbacks jersey this season.

Passan reports that the trade will become official after medical review.
BREAKING: The Seattle Mariners are in agreement on a deal to acquire third baseman Eugenio Suárez from the Arizona Diamondbacks, sources tell ESPN. The trade is pending medical review.

Mariners fans should feel ecstatic right about now. No doubt they didn’t get him for nothing – further trade details have yet to emerge – but their team has landed the biggest name on the market, even if only for the home stretch. Suarez will enter free agency this offseason and should command a hefty deal.
As for Brew Crew backers, they can let out a sigh acknowledging that the sweepstakes over. Disappointment, indifference, even relief. All emotions are welcome.
Milwaukee could benefit from adding pop somewhere – though Andrew Vaughn is helping to lessen that need – but staying away from Suarez means they won’t rock the boat on the left side of the infield.

Playing the same position over at the hot corner, rookie Caleb Durbin is having an outstanding season thanks to stellar defense. In 85 games played, he has accumulated a 2.2 WAR.
