The Milwaukee Brewers, initially, were expected to be one of baseball’s most busy teams ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline. However, to the dismay of many fans, the team did not acquire a coveted slugger such as Eugenio Suarez. Instead, Milwaukee settled on three deals that netted them an unproven light-hitting outfielder, backup catcher, a much needed bullpen arm (who needs to go on rehab assignment), and a starting pitcher recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The outfielder, Brandon Lockridge, was acquired from the San Diego Padres in light of the news that Jackson Chourio will likely need a short stint on the injured list after suffering a hamstring spasm earlier this week. Milwaukee sent Nestor Cortes and Jorge Quintana to the Padres as compensation.
The reliever, former Arizona Diamondbacks closer Shelby Miller, boasts a 1.98 ERA and 10 saves this season, but has not pitched since July 5 due to a forearm strain. Jordan Montgomery, the starter, is a free agent at the end of the season and likely will not ever pitch in a Brewers uniform.
The catcher, of course, is Danny Jansen, who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week.
Milwaukee Brewers Fan Favorite Eric Haase Has Cleared Waivers

In order to make room for Jansen, a Wisconsin native and graduation of Appleton West High School, the Brewers designated their backup catcher, Eric Haase, for assignment. He had been hitting .229/.289/.357 with two home runs and nine RBI this season.
Jansen, prior to the trade, was hitting .204/.314/.389 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI.
The reason for the trade was that the Brewers were looking to upgrade their roster any way that they can. With William Contreras entrenched as the everyday starter at catcher, and who rarely takes a day off, Haase simply was not getting the playing time that he needed to continue to stay fresh at the plate.
Additionally, Jansen’s .703 OPS is much better than Haase’s .647.
Many fans did not want to Haase go as they love his energy whenever he plays. He also calls a good game behind the plate.
Fortunately, he will not be leaving the organization:
Catcher Eric Haase cleared waivers and was outrighted to Nashville. He was DFA’d this week when the Brewers traded for Danny Jansen.

Haase has been on Milwaukee’s Major League roster all season this year, but hit .279/.367/.503 with nine home runs and 31 RBI for Triple-A Nashville last year.
Sending Haase to Nashville also gives that team an extra option at catcher, something they needed after Jeferson Quero re-injured his shoulder and was said to be out for 3-4 weeks.
