The Milwaukee Brewers are looking to avoid being swept by the New York Yankees for the first time since 2011. When they play today (Sunday), starting pitcher Aaron Civale will be the one tasked with trying to quiet the loud Yankees modified bats that mashed nine home runs on Saturday afternoon.
He is also Milwaukee’s last healthy starting pitcher on their roster for Opening Weekend due to the plethora of injuries suffered by multiple Brewers pitchers during Spring Training.
Since Milwaukee does not have any more starters on their roster, they are going to use one of their relief pitchers as a game opener when they face the Kansas City Royals on Monday.
Elvin Rodriguez Will Start the Milwaukee Brewers Home Opener

Per Adam McCalvy, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said yesterday, “I know for the fans at home it would be great to have Quintana or one of our regular rotation guys. But this is the way it is right now. We’re beat up. We’re hurt. We’ve got to go through it.”
Because they do not have another off day for another eight days, they cannot use one of their healthy starting pitchers in the home opener on Monday. As a result, Elvin Rodriguez will get the start as the team’s opener in what is sure to be a heavy bullpen game for Milwaukee.
Brewers will start an opener in the home opener: Elvin Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has appeared in eight Major League games in his career, but has not been in the Big Leagues since 2023 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He has career marks of an 0-4 record and 9.55 ERA.
Pitching in Japan last year, Rodriguez was 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 49 games. He made the Brewers Opening Day roster despite a rough Spring Training that saw him go 1-2 with a 7.59 ERA.
The last time that he pitched in the Majors, in that 2023 season, he pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless ball in his lone appearance.
Hopefully he can do the same for the Brewers on Monday.
