The Milwaukee Brewers have signed right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia to a 2025 Minor League deal. Jeff Passan was the first to report the news. Adam McCalvy later added that he will get an invite to big league camp.
Deivi Garcia is a former top New York Yankees prospect
25 year old Deivi Garcia was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Yankees in 2015 and once was a consensus top 100 prospect. During the shortened 2020 season he made his MLB debut and was even used as an opener during the playoffs. Unfortunately, his career has not gone according to plan since as he has struggled in both Triple-A and the MLB with both the Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
Deivi Garcia statistics and pitch repertoire
On the mound Deivi Garcia averages 95 MPH on his fastball. After that he equally mixes in a curveball and sweeper. His least frequently utilized pitch is a changeup.
Across 71.2 career MLB innings, Deivi Garcia has a 5.02 ERA. He has started eight games and appeared in 30. His career WHIP is 1.41 and he has 65 punch outs.
The Milwaukee Brewers are a haven for pitching reclamations
When Jeff Passan first announced the signing he said that, “His (Deivi Garcia) stuff grades out very well and Milwaukee has become a haven for pitching reclamations.” What Jeff Passan was hinting at is that Garcia has great metrics on his pitches and he generates a lot of whiffs, but he has not consistently gotten positive results on the mound. It will be interesting to see what tweaks Milwaukee makes to his game to potentially elevate him back into being relevant again.
