When the Milwaukee Brewers traded two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams to the New York Yankees earlier this offseason, there was little question as to who his replacement would be. Last year, while Williams was out for most of the season with stress fractures in his back, Milwaukee relied on a closer-by-committee to save ballgames.
Eventually, Trevor Megill emerged as the Brewers closer, and he racked up 21 saves to go with a career-best 2.72 ERA. With Williams no permanently off the roster, it stands to reason that he would get the job again in 2025, especially after a spring that saw him post a 1.59 ERA.
The Milwaukee Brewers Are High on Pitching Prospect Craig Yoho

Going into Spring Training, many fans were anxious to get a glimpse of pitching prospect Craig Yoho after his impressive 2024 campaign in the minor leagues. Last year, Yoho cruised through High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, posting a 0.94 ERA and striking out 101 batters in just 48.1 innings pitched.
Yoho’s changeup, recently nicknamed “The Yo-Yo,” has drawn comparisons to Williams’ airbender, the pitch that makes him so successful.
And Yoho had a great Spring Training, too. In seven games, he has a 1.23 ERA and has struck out 12 batters in 7.1 innings.
But he will not be on Milwaukee’s Opening Day roster.
Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Prospect Craig Yoho Responds to Not Making the Team

On Wednesday, the Brewers announced three roster moves that narrowed their pool of players in contention for a spot on the Opening Day roster. One of these was optioning infielder Andruw Monasterio to Triple-A, meaning that Milwaukee will have a different Opening Day third baseman for the sixth time in six years.
But another was reassigning Yoho to minor league camp, indicating that he will not be joining the Brewers in New York when they start the regular season.
After the announcement was made, Yoho spoke to reporters regarding his demeanor going forward:

“I mean, yeah, it was a good experience. I played well. A lot of confidence going into the season and, you know, looking forward to get the ball rolling.
“And I mean, yeah, [the Majors are] where I want to be, and I want to be helping the team win. There’s obviously a bit of, you know, I wish I was going to New York with them. But when my time comes, I’ll be ready for it.”
He also told reporters that he was informed by Pat Murphy and the front office that he will be appearing in Milwaukee at some point this season. To that end, his goal right now is to continue dominating hitters in Nashville in order to stay sharp and ready for when the call comes.
