Spring training did not start ideal for the Milwaukee Brewers as they surrendered a 1-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
The result should not send anyone into panic because 1) it is only an exhibition game and 2) players are not yet in full strength.
That is what starting pitcher Aaron Ashby is clinging on
The 26-year-old left-handed pitcher started for the team and recorded three hits, four runs ,and two walks. He also had a strike out.
They lost but for Ashby, it is all about getting his rhythm back.
He thinks he is on his way there by comparing how he started last season and his game against the Colorado Rockies.
“Healthy is definitely a factor,” said Ashby after the gane.
“Being healthy and being available kind of lets everything else fall into place. There are obviously things that go along with it, but I’m walking off healthy today and I’m feeling good.”
The 2024 season was an average one for Ashby and the blame is on his injury in 2023. He suffered a shoulder injury the season before and was subjected to an extended layoff and rehabilitation.
Milwaukee Brewers’ health took a big hit
Milwaukee Brewers prioritize health but they will need more precautions as another player make the injured bay.
The team announced that Blake Perkins will miss the start of the season due to a fractured shin.
The veteran outfielder reportedly got the injury when he fouled a ball off himself. He will be out for the first three months.
This is a huge loss for the Brewers as Perkins provided not just entertainment but also a reliable service from the outfield last season, including five home-run robberies.
“Perk is a big part of our team, the whole chemistry of the team,” said manager Pat Murphy.
“Perk is huge. He’s one of the most loved guys on the club. And he’s a great defender, and coming into his own as an offensive player.
“Yeah, it’s going to hurt us.”
