Colin Rea statistics with the Milwaukee Brewers
Colin Rea earned a spot with the Brewers after revitalizing his career overseas. In 2023, he logged 124.2 innings over 26 games (22 starts), finishing with a 4.55 ERA. The following year, he made 32 appearances (27 starts) and pitched 167.2 innings with a 4.29 ERA. Rea was arguably one of the Brewers’ most consistent starters during the first half of the 2024 season, posting a 3.77 ERA over 105 innings. However, his performance dipped in the second half, as he posted a 5.17 ERA over 67.2 innings to end the season.
The Milwaukee Brewers placed Colin Rea on waivers during the early stages of the 2024 offseason
In November, Colin Rea was placed on waivers and all other 29 clubs passed on picking up his $5.5 million club option. As a result he became a free agent. Rea recently told a local news outlet in Iowa that this news initially surprised him, but he is using it as motivation going forward.
“I think it was just time for them to move on. I was a little bit shocked initially, but you know when you sit down and think about it, you can then put yourself in their shoes. It is what it is. That’s the way the game goes sometimes, but, you know, and a little extra motivation never hurts.
“It does me give me a little something extra to have in my head. Sometimes, you need that little extra to get you going. You look yourself in the mirror, put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself what did happen. I have to look at it from all angles. Not everything was great. There’s always something to improve on and get better, and having that little extra motivation like that helps.”

What kind of interest is Colin Rea receiving in free agency?
When asked about MLB teams current interest levels, Colin Rea was very honest. He revealed that the process has been slow, teams have reached out, and that other organizations are likely waiting to see how things progress before turning their attention back to him.
“It’s been more like teams reaching out, saying they’re interested, but nothing like has progressed from that. It’s more like they have other things they want to do first, but they want us to know they’re interested. They’ll say, ‘If things start to progress forward with other teams, let us know.'”
Given Rea’s reliability and durability over the past two seasons, it seems very likely that he will get a MLB deal somewhere for 2025. Right now he just has to continue being patient and wait for an opportunity to present itself.
