The Milwaukee Brewers have had to make several tough roster decisions over the last couple of days. Fan favorite Mark Canha, who signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee with an invitation to Spring Training, was traded to the Kansas City Royals after he was informed the Brewers would not guarantee him a roster spot. The Royals, however, would, so Milwaukee did right by him and sent him to Kansas City for a player to be named later.
Connor Thomas, whom the Brewers snagged away from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Rule 5 Draft, was recently informed that he had made Milwaukee’s Opening Day roster.
And on Saturday afternoon, the Brewers informed two of their top prospects that their time in the Majors had not yet come.
The Milwaukee Brewers Optioned Tyler Black and Caleb Durbin

On Saturday, the Brewers announced that they had optioned infield prospects Tyler Black and Caleb Durbin to Triple-A Nashville:

The decision to option Black was not all that surprising after he hit just .152/.333/.273 with a home run, five RBI, and two stolen bases in 11 Spring Training games. Jake Bauers, who is/was competing with Black for the backup first base job, was hitting .281/.361/.594 with two home runs and eight RBI entering play on Saturday.
He hit another home run in Milwaukee’s loss to the A’s.
Durbin was in the running to be part of the Brewers’ platoon at third base after being acquired from the New York Yankees in the trade that sent Devin Williams to the Bronx. However, he hit .250/.322/.404 with two home runs, seven RBI, and seven stolen bases while Vinny Capra, who has no minor league options remaining, hit .308/.386/.769 with five home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases.
Undoubtedly, both Black and Durbin will be with the Brewers eventually this season, but for now they are getting much needed daily playing time in Nashville.
