The Milwaukee Brewers have had their hand with pitching consistently being an issue this season. With Brandon Woodruff down due to injury, Corbin Burnes traded to the Baltimore Orioles, and Freddy Peralta not particularly in his ‘prime’ era anymore, they’ve had to rely on pitchers like Colin Rea and Tobias Myers to take charge and lead the rotation.
The MLB Trade Deadline is rapidly approaching, and it’s clear that the Brewers are going to be buyers; Now, who they decide to acquire is a big question, but there’s no doubt that they need to address their starting pitching.
According to one report, Milwaukee has been listed as one of three teams to possibly acquire a Colorado Rockies starting pitcher.
Milwaukee Brewers listed as a team to possibly acquire Cal Quantrill
After being designated for assignment in November by the Cleveland Guardians, the Colorado Rockies acquired arguably their most consistent pitcher in their rotation this season in Cal Quantrill.
Quantrill leads the team in innings pitched (102 1/3) and ERA at 4.13 across 19 games so far this season with Colorado. The RHP has a 6-7 record, 78 strikeouts, 1.349 WHIP, and has walked 39, respectively.
Though Milwaukee just acquired Aaron Civale and Dallas Keuchel earlier this month, if they’re able to get Quantrill on their roster, one of those two could be bumped out of the rotation to make room for him as he could play a huge role for the Brewers and help them in a postseason run.
Why Quantrill is a good fit for the Brewers
With the rate the Brewers are playing baseball, they’re likely going to be seeing the postseason, and having an arm like Quantrill in their rotation is going to be super crucial. While he probably isn’t one to depend on in a win-or-go-home situation in the postseason, he definitely will be a strong contributor to the team getting there in the first place.
Luckily for Milwaukee, acquiring the 29-year-old starting pitcher wouldn’t break the bank or put a huge dent in their payroll, seeing as he has another year left on his contract following this season. A handful of the players the Brewers have acquired this year and even in the offseason are one-year scenarios but with Cal Quantrill, they might be able to pull off having him apart of the team for a couple of years.
Though there are other options available out on the market for the Brewers to go after, Quantrill might be the best and possibly most affordable option to acquire.
