The Milwaukee Brewers have a knack for making under-the-radar pitching signings and turning them into successful contributors. This offseason, they’ve specifically focused on adding left-handed pitchers to their organization. On Thursday, December 19, they signed yet another southpaw.
Who are the new left-handed pitchers in the Milwaukee Brewers organization?
Entering the off-season, the Brewers had southpaws Aaron Ashby, D.L. Hall, Robert Gasser, Bryan Hudson, Jared Koenig, and Tyler Jay all on the 40-man roster. New additions have been Nestor Cortes, Connor Thomas, and Grant Wolfram. This equates to nine left-handed pitchers on the roster.
Lefty pitcher Bruce Zimmerman has joined the Milwaukee Brewers on a minor league contract
Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Bruce Zimmerman has joined the Brewers on a minor league contract. This deal includes an invite to big league camp. Keeping with the new left-handed pitcher additions theme, Zimmerman will join lefty Thomas Pannone as another non-roster invitee.
Bruce Zimmerman statistics
Throughout 158.1 career big league innings that spans the 2020-2023 seasons, Bruce Zimmerman has a career 5.57 ERA. The soft tossing left generates a lot of ground balls and pounds the strike zone. With a lot of balls being put in play, he could benefit from Milwaukee’s excellent infield defense should his services be needed in the big leagues.
