Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff is currently in the rehab process after undergoing shoulder surgery in October of 2023. While he won’t pitch in 2024 he has recently hit a significant milestone in his recovery process.
What kind of shoulder surgery did Brandon Woodruff undergo?
Dr. Keith Meister performed a surgery on Brandon Woodruff to repair a torn anterior capsule. The procedure was done on Friday, October 13, 2023. Not a lot of information has been released on Woodruff’s recovery but he has remained consistent in saying that no matter what he will not pitch in 2024.
Brandon Woodruff recently hit a significant milestone in the shoulder recovery process.
Per Adam McCalvy at MLB.com Brandon Woodruff recently threw off a mound for the first time. On Tuesday, August 27 he threw 15 pitches and is scheduled to throw again on Friday or Saturday. This is exciting news as throwing off a mount is a significant milestone and if all continues to go well he will have the entire off-season to work on restoring velocity, pitch shape, dialing in location, and building up his arm for a starters work load in 2025.
The Milwaukee Brewers have Brandon Woodruff under contract in 2025 and potentially through 2026.
Last off-season was a rollercoaster for Brandon Woodruff. He not only underwent surgery but the Milwaukee Brewers non-tendered him in November and he remained unsigned until February. At that time he reached a deal with the Brew Crew that paid him $2.5 million this year, $5 million in 2025, and a $20 mutual option in 2026 with a $10 million buyout.
All-in-all this is great news for the Brewers and Brandon Woodruff. Hopefully Woodruff will be able to quietly continue working on his rehab and report to Spring Training a full go.
