Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff missed the 2023 playoff series against the Arizona Diamondbacks as well as the entire 2024 season due to a shoulder issue that ultimately required surgery. Recovery from shoulder surgery in pitchers can be a rollercoaster, but recently he opened up as to where he is at in the recovery process and how he is feeling overall.
Brandon Woodruff is throwing multiple bullpens a week and will be traveling to the Milwaukee Brewers Arizona complex soon
According to Adam McCalvy at MLB.com, Brandon Woodruff is throwing bullpens this off-season on Tuesdays and Fridays. He is about to hit the 30 pitch mark and after that will start throwing simulated innings. Following that, he will be ready to face live hitters for the first time in 15 months. Before doing so, he will travel to the Brewers Arizona Complex, dig into the pitching lab, and see where his stuff is at because currently, by design, he has not had any radar guns present during his bullpens.
Brandon Woodruff says he is “in a really good spot”
Subjectively, Brandon Woodruff feels in a really good spot, that includes where he was just three months ago when he was still with the Brewers on a regular basis.. Woodruff said, “The further I get out, the more months that I get under my belt, the better it is. Really, these first couple months coming up during the season are crucial. I think if I can get through those okay and do just fine, I’ll be okay.”
Will Brandon Woodruff be ready for Opening Day in 2025?
When asked about his timeline, Brandon Woodruff was non-committal to being ready for Opening Day. He said, “I honestly can’t answer that question, but I can tell you my mindset is to get ready for that. I’m preparing to go and pitch, whether that’s in New York, whether I’m on the back end of the rotation, who knows?”
It will be interesting to see how Brandon Woodruff does this year for the Brewers. He essentially is on a one year deal, in which Milwaukee is paying him $5.0 million for the 2025 season, but he does have a $20 million mutual option for the 2026 season that includes a $10 million buyout.
