Returning players in 2025 that saved games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year
The Brewers have a variety of options to consider for the closer role this season. Trevor Megill, the favorite to start the year in the position, led the team with 21 saves last year. Other returnees include Joel Payamps, who saved six games, Abner Uribe with three saves, Elvis Peguero with two, and Jared Koenig, who recorded one save.
MLB writer surprisingly adds one other pitcher into the closers conversation
At MLB.com, writer Adam McCalvy gave a prediction as to who will breakout in 2025. He picked Aaron Ashby, who signed a five year, $20.5 million extension with the team in 2022. McCalvy noted that Ashby has had a few mini-breakouts in the big leagues, including last year when he found success out of the bullpen. He also acknowledged that the team may initially stretch him out as a starter, but a fallback is placing him in the bullpen where his stuff is good enough to be in the closers conversation.
How did Aaron Ashby perform out of the bullpen a season ago?
At the MLB level last year, Aaron Ashby made 12 relief appearances and pitched 19.2 innings. His three earned runs allowed allotted to a 1.37 ERA. In addition to much improved velocity as a reliever, his strikeout to walk ratio was also impressive as he fanned 28 batters and walked just three.
Entering 2025, Aaron Ashby will look to build on the confidence he gained last season. He demonstrated the ability to reach pre-injury velocity following major shoulder surgery, while also getting positive results on the mound. The biggest question will be which role he will assume next year, and given how effective he was out of the bullpen last season, it’s exciting to think about what he can accomplish.
