Milwaukee Brewers: 1 stat proves they’re legitimate World Series contenders

The Milwaukee Brewers have built a reputation for regular season consistency, reaching the postseason in six of the last seven years. However, their last playoff series win came during their 2018 run, which ended just one game shy of a World Series appearance. Despite their sustained success, the narrative has lingered that the Brewers are built for the regular season, but not constructed to make a deep postseason push.

Over the course of the 162-game grind, the Brewers have built a winning formula: beat the teams they’re supposed to and avoid getting swept. That approach has consistently kept them in postseason contention. This year, however, they’ve taken it a step further, not only handling business against weaker opponents but also thriving against division leaders across the league, reinforcing their status as a legitimate contender while pointing out that this year is different.

One stat that proves the Milwaukee Brewers are legitimate World Series contenders

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Isaac Collins (6) is swarmed by teammates after hitting a game-winning sacrifice fly during the ninth inning of their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8.

Heading into their three-game series with the Phillies starting on Labor Day, the Brewers have more than held their own against the league’s top teams, Philadelphia included. Milwaukee is an impressive 15-3 against current division leaders, boasting a 6-0 record against the Dodgers, 3-0 against the Phillies, and series wins over the Astros, Tigers, and Blue Jays (2-1 each). It’s a strong statement that the Brewers aren’t just beating weaker teams, they’re thriving against the best.

Milwaukee has managed to defeat these teams the same way they did everyone else this year. That is by collecting hits, taking what is given to them, applying pressure, playing sound defense, and their pitchers executing on the mound.
Entering the final month of the season, the Brewers are first in the NL in batting average (.259), on-base percentage (.332), runs scored (703), hits (1217), and stolen bases (141). They also have the best team ERA at 3.60.

This year feels different for the Brewers and the numbers back it up. They’re not just surviving on pitching or relying on a hot stretch; they’re beating top-tier teams and this version of the Brewers is more balanced, more complete, and more dangerous than in years past. They are built not just for the regular season, but for a serious October run.
