Packers Urged to Sign 13-Interception Cornerback to Add Veteran Leadership

The Green Bay Packers‘ secondary remains in a bit of a state of flux, especially after releasing cornerback Jaire Alexander earlier this spring.

While the Packers certaily have young depth, and could get a boost from incoming free agent signing Nate Hobbs, general manager Brian Gutekunst and Green Bay could look to make a marquee signing before the 2025 season kicks off.

As training camp nears, veteran cornerback Mike Hilton could be an ideal fit to add a veteran presence to the cornerback room and the ability to contribute quality snaps at a position that’s vital in coordinator Jeff Hafley’s system.

Heavy Sports’ Daniel Arwas suggests the Packers should prioritize adding Hilton in the weeks ahead.

“Hilton has been one of the better and more reliable nickel corners,” Arwas writes for Heavy. “Over the course of his eight years in the league – seven of which he played in.

“The former undrafted free agent is currently an unrestricted free agent for the first extended period of time in his career, and would be an excellent fit in Green Bay. The Packers could do with some veteran leadership in the cornerback room, now that the team released All-Pro, Jaire Alexander – with the most senior members of the room now being Keisean Nixon and recent offseason acquisition, Nate Hobbs.”

At age 31, Hilton added six quarterback pressures to his 73 total tackles and one interception, and is just a year removed from posting a career-high 84 tackles, showing that he still frequently finds himself around the football and can still be a productive tackler.

Given his versatility to ilne up in the slot or at safety, Hilton could be the exact kind of veteran defender the Packers need in the secondary to take it to the next level in 2025.
