Micah Parsons aside, one of the most anticipated Green Bay Packers debuts in the 2025 NFL season is that of rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden.

The former Texas Longhorns star wideout has everyone excited to see him in action in a true competitive game in the league.

After all, he was the first player of his position to be taken by the Packers in the first round of a draft in over two decades.

As the anticipation for his NFL debut this coming Sunday against the visiting Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in Green Bay continues to build up, Golden has noticeably made an intriguing decision. Golden has changed his jersey number from No. 22 to No. 0. With that, he has become the first player in the history of the franchise to wear that digit in his uniform.

“I always wanted a single digit,” Golden said on Wednesday (h/t Zach Kruse of Packers Wire). “They said 0 has never been worn here, so obviously it’s going to be the first time in franchise history. For me, I just want to make a name for myself in that number.”

Golden was originally given the No. 81 jersey after Green Bay selected him 23rd overall at the 2025 NFL draft. He later donned the No. 22 jersey. He would have loved to wear No. 2, which was his number during his high school days, but that digit was already taken by Green Bay backup quarterback Malik Willis.

In his last season in college, he had 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions with the Longhorns in 2024.
