Packers head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t hold back.
Jordan Love wound up taking home the “Angry Run of The Week” from NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, after lowering his shoulder to truck Washington Commanders Will Harris to move the sticks on a 14-yard third-down run.
Packers’ Matt LaFleur sounds off on Jordan Love’s run
Given what the Packers have at stake, how lofty Green Bay’s ceiling appears to be, and Love’s importance to maximizing this roster, LaFleur wasn’t thrilled by his quarterback absorbing another big hit.
“Ideally, in a perfect world,” LaFleur told reporters. “You give him a better play for the coverage so he does not have to do that and you can get somebody open. But we had nobody open on that, it was a bad concept for the coverage. So that’s one of the things we’ve talked about.”
“The thing that I really liked that he did is that he was really decisive when he decided to take off and go. There was no hesitation. And I think that’s what you’ve got to do is when you recognize that your concept is not gonna be great, can you pull the ball down and get what you can.”
Still, as Love finished with 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns, LaFleur was fired up to see his quarterback doing what he needed to do to keep the pressure on Washington with one of the bigger running plays across the league in Week 2.
“Sometimes,” LaFleur said. “You just gotta do what you gotta do. Obviously that was a huge play, getting us down there and leading to a touchdown.”
