Former Packers third-round draft choice Marshawn Lloyd is making his presence felt early in the position battle for Green Bay’s No. 2 running back job behind Josh Jacobs.
According to the team’s official website, Lloyd has been an early standout through the first three practices of training camp.
“While it’s only two non-padded practices,” Wes Hodkiewwicz writes. “Lloyd has flashed the speed and explosiveness that made him a third-round pick last year.”
Lloyd, 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds, saw his rookie season come to an end after just one game after suffering hamstring and ankle injuries that landed him on injured reserve. However, it appears that Lloyd is ready to make his presence felt in the Packers’ backfield in his second season.
Packers’ Marshawn Lloyd Opens Up About Position Battle

It’s early in the summer, and Lloyd has a long way to go to prove he’s capable of being the top back behind Jacobs, his training camp is off to a fast start.
After logging just six carries for 15 yards in 2024, Lloyd believes his best days aren’t only to come but might just be beginning.
“It’s like a kid in a candy store. I’m excited,” Lloyd said. “I love this game. I love this team. I’m just excited to be able to help. I think I can help. I bring an explosive ability and I’m excited. I’m very excited.
“When I’m ready to go, I’m ready to go. I’m the type of guy, when it’s time, it’s time. When it was ready, I got out there and put the cleats on, it was all gas, no brakes. That’s just my mindset, the way I go.”
That mentality is going to take Lloyd a long way, and could be what it takes to push him up the depth chart.
