Marquette Golden Eagles are on a roll and things could get brighter for them as coach Shaka Smart reveals Sean Jones is progressing well and is already doing court activities.
Jones, a junior who averaged 5.8 points per game in 17 minutes last season, tore his ACL in January this year when they played against Butler. He has been declared out for the whole season in the same week.
“He is practicing,” Smart said. “Not full time, but he is out there some five-on-five.
“And, honestly, we thought it was going to be just half-court and he jumped into some full-court stuff.”
Jones’ road to recovery is something carefully being monitored by the team to make sure that he will return to top shape, especially because his game relies more on his speed.
The 6’5 guard was gradually improving his game before going down with injury. He played just 12 minutes per game in the 2022-2023 season and found a bigger role in the next season.
The bigger problem with Sean Jones’ recovery
Smart said Jones is doing great in his recovery. Helping him on that are MU assistant athletic director for applied sports science and performance Todd Smith.
However, they are also teaching patience to the kid in dealing with his injury as they deem it more tasking area.
“I think the last step is mentally having a real clarity with understanding that you can go out there and do it. I’ve never had that injury, but talking to people that have, it doesn’t feel the same for a while. It probably won’t feel the same at all this season, until next season.”
Right now, the Marquette Golden Eagles are doing well, going 8-0 after their their dominant pair of wins in the last two weeks.
