The Marquette Golden Eagles finished with a 23-8 record last season. Marquette for two straight seasons has been a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament. They failed to reach the Final Four in both seasons, but it has been over 20 years since they have accomplished that goal.
Marquette will have tons of talent returning to the roster in 2024-2025 despite graduating Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro. Some of the key players who will be returning are Kam Jones, Ben Gold, Stevie Mitchell, and Chase Ross. Head coach Shaka Smart has developed a winning culture over the last couple of years with the Marquette Golden Eagles.
They have been to the Big East Final for the last two seasons. Marquette won in 2022-2023 but lost to the UCONN Huskies during the 2023-2024 season. UCONN was unbeatable a season ago and they could be on the verge of a three-peat in college basketball.
Big East Buckets Thinks That the Marquette Golden Eagles are Only Ranked the 5th Best Team in the Big East Conference For the 2024-2025 Season
There is a lot of time between now and November before the start of the 2024-2025 college basketball season. To no surprise, Big East Buckets posted on their Twitter page the rankings of the Big East Conference.

There is no argument with the UCONN Huskies being ranked as the top dog in the conference, but the Marquette Golden Eagles being ranked fifth in the conference is outrageous. They did lose key players with Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro no doubt, but the Xavier Musketeers and the Providence Friars being ranked ahead of Marquette is crazy.
Marquette might be the only team in the conference other than the UCONN Huskies to be ranked in the Top 25 ranking before the start of the 2024-2025 season. The Creighton Blue Jays are ranked third on this list and Creighton is in the correct spot. It is a coin flip between them and the Marquette Golden Eagles for who is better in the conference than the Huskies.
Creighton and Marquette had the same record in Big East Conference play last season. The Blue Jays were the second seed in the Big East Tournament and the Marquette Golden Eagles were the third seed in the Big East Tournament.
We will see what the rankings will be when it gets closer to the college basketball season. The conference only had three teams in the NCAA Tournament a season ago, but they hope to get more into the tournament this season. The Seton Hall Pirates are also better than eighth in the conference.
