The game against St. John’s Red Storm started in a celebratory mood after Kam Jones and other seniors were honored for the Senior Day. The problem is that mood didn’t last for three hours.

The Red Storm pushed the Golden Eagles into an overtime period to pull off an 86-84 win at the Fiserv Forum.
The Golden Eagles could have made the day extra memorable for Jones, Stevie Mitchell, and David Joplin but they failed to guard RJ Luis who made a lay-up to tie the game at 75 with just 10 seconds left.
The visiting Red Storm would have needed a three if only Stevie Mitchell did not miss the other free throw with 22 seconds remaining.
In the OT period, Zuby Ejiofor hit an easy lay-up right at the sound of the buzzer after Marquette turned the ball over.

Nevertheless, Marquette’s effort was commendable. The game was for anybody’s taking as the two teams went on a see-saw battle from the get go.
Jones finished with 32 points while David Joplin contributed 21. Mitchell, however, was the only one from the three seniors whose stat was not as impressive as he finished with just four points without hitting a field goal.
Kam Jones looking forward to post-season
Jones had an all around game aside from his 32 points that is just two-point short of his career high. He finished the game with nine rebounds, seven assists, one block, and one steal.
Although his senior night did not end the way he wanted, especially since it was in front of his schoolmates, he still feels grateful for the community and his fellow seniors for the seasons he spent with them.
“Grateful for who those guys are and they still have an opportunity to leave a heck of a legacy here at Marquette in addition to what they’ve already done,” he said after the game.

He is also not feeling down despite the loss. He believes they can still achieve after the regular season and he hopes can further his legacy along with Joplin and Mitchell.
“We have the opportunity to play next week and beyond. These guys have been terrific with the way they’ve impacted people here. The relationships they’ve built. Now’s the most important time, the postseason of your senior year.”
