Almost but not quite is all Georgetown Hoyas can tell themselves after failing to get the win against the Marquette Golden Eagles despite leading much of the game. Hoyas coach Ed Cooleys’ game plan limited Kam Jones but other players were left unmarked.
It is a different hero who came out for the Golden Eagles today to extend their winning streak to five. Guards Chase Ross and Stevie Mitchell led the comeback for their team who were down big in a long stretch in the game.
Ross scored 27 points while Mitchell scored 13. Jones only had 11 on four out 14 shooting.
Hoyas, who came into the game with their own five-game winning streak, controlled the tempo in the first 30 minutes. Until Ross and Mitchell happened.
The Golden Eagles were able to snatch the in in the last 10 minutes led by their guard duo.
Jones’ post on X right after the game tells exactly what type of player they are.
“Chase and Stew X-Rays results just came in,” he wrote on X with a witty photo.

Marquette outscored Hoys, 45-28, in the second half to win the game, 74-66.
Chase Ross speaks up about improbable comeback
Ross recorded his career high on the night and it came at a time when his team needed him the most.
MUBB trailed by nine points at half time and then they started the second half slow, surrendering as much as 7 points early to allow the Hoyas to extend their lead to 14.
Ross and Mitchell worked hard on the defensive end aside from the executions of the offense.
What were they thinking when they were down big?
“Anything could happen so just looking back at it, then we can also move forward with the win,” he told reporters after the game.
As for his individual performance and career night, he said it is all about trusting the process.
“Balls are not falling your way every time. Calls are not always get called. Just staying within yourself, trusting your teammates. And they put you in the right position. They put me in the right position to do what I have to do. I’m just thankful for it.”
