Marquette Golden Eagles slipped for a bit in December but they are back rolling again, which means climbing up the AP Ranking.
The Associated Press released its latest college basketball ranking and the Golden Eagles climbed by one spot from last week’s ranking to no. 7 after a 4-0 campaign.
Coach Shaka Smart’s team dropped their December 15 game against Dayton Flyers but they were able to regroup and won four straight.
These games were against the Butler Bulldogs, Xavier Musketeers, Province Friars, and Creighton Bluejays.
Marquette collected 1134 points in that span to take over the spot by Florida Gators who dropped to no. 8 from no. 6.
The 4-0 run saw several Golden Eagles stand out.
Kam Jones remains the best player in the team, scoring 20.3 points so far this season. He has formidable support with David Joplin breaking through to 1,000 Marquette career points and Stevie Mitchell who turned heads last game against Creighton with his top notch defense and offense.
Next up for them are Big East no. 3 Georgetown Hoyas which are the third hottest team right now with their five-game winning streak.
Which teams Marquette Golden Eagles are looking up at?
Golden Eagles are only two spots away from the Top 5 but it might be hard to move the teams occupying those spots.
The Top 5 ranking of AP did not change.
