Brother on and off the court is what Marquette Golden Eagles players have shown this holiday season as they not only battle opponents together but also take on college life challenges as one.
Several scholarship players from Golden Eagles decided to play not their usual roles on the hardwood but to play the role of Santa for their walk-on teammates.
Six walk-on players received a certain amount of money from their colleagues who earn money through the name, image and likeness deals they had.
The six player who received gifts were Cam Brown, Jonah Lucas, Jack Anderson, Jake Ciardo, Luke Jacobson and Casey O’Malley.
Being a walk-on player is a little harder financially and the scholarship players decided they could give them a helping hand.
Golden Eagles walk-ons received $1,000 each
Basketball varsity players all have two dreams – to play and to finish college. Not all dreams are created equal though.
This is why Brown is thankful for the gesture. He revealed that they got around $1000 from their teammates.
“I started giving out hugs to everybody,” said Brown who is now a senior.
“It’s a special thing. It’s a special feeling when you know that they care about you that much. I’m just grateful for it honestly.”
Star player David Joplin, for his part, thinks the walk-ons are just as important as every part of the team and them giving these guys holiday gifts is just right.
“They kind of make the games easy for us, so the walk-ons do so much for us,” he said. “We need them. So anything we can do to help them, we’ll do that.”
