The Marquette Golden Eagles recorded a new season record of 41 threes in their rout of the Providence Friars on Wednesday. Team star Kam Jones it was not something out of nowhere.

To him, it is a weapon they just haven’t been using this season.
The team averages at least 29.2 three point attempts per game, the 16th most in the current NCAA Basketball season. The highest 3PA attempt average goes to North Florida Ospreys who shoot the ball from beyond the arch 36 times per outing.
While the numbers are surprising, Jones thinks they just took the shots they found most comfortable.
“We got a lot of open ones,” he said.
“So even when we’re not making them, we’ll take open threes whenever. We’ve got a lot of good shooters on this team. We haven’t been shooting them great, the greatest that we can this season.”

He also feels good that they finally hit long range shots and believes it is something that is about to happen amid all their struggles.
“It’s been a weapon for us − we just haven’t shot our best as a team,” Jones said. “And that’s fine. Teams are kind of praying that we don’t come out and shoot well. … It was good to make somebody pay tonight.”
Ben Gold echoes Kam Jones
Jones produced what he has been producing all-season long but the biggest headline of the night was big man Ben Gold who scored 17 points in the game.
He has been shy when it comes to attempts, even recorded two straight games with just two points.
It was different against Providence. He recorded his career high and was even efficient from the three-point line.

How did that happen? Like what Jones said, setting up each other for the best shot.
“We were also just helping each other get open. Whether it was just attacking in space and kicking out. We’re all ready to shoot. We know we’re a high-level shooting team. We do it every single day. We put the work in. It’s good to see it go in, but we know that it’s not just a one-off thing.”
Jones, Gold, and the rest of the Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday to face Georgetown Hoyas.
