The 2024-25 college season is over for Marquette basketball point guard Sean Jones. According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Jones will be redshirted this campaign due to the knee injury that the player is still trying to recover from.
“Marquette’s Sean Jones (knee) will redshirt during the 2024-25 season, per release. Averaged 5.8 PPG and 2.0 APG last season prior to injury,” Rothstein shared via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
The news came nearly a full year since he last saw action for Marquette basketball on Jan. 10, 2024. Jones suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury during a 69-62 loss to the Butler Bulldogs at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. In that game, Jones came off the bench and scored two points to go with two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 18 minutes before leaving the contest following a hard fall.
Marquette basketball’s Sean Jones will not play in 2024-25 season
Through 49 games so far in his career with Marquette basketball, Jones has averaged 4.3 points, 1.4 assists and 1.0 rebounds while shooting 41.8 percent from the floor and 28.9 percent from behind the arc.
Marquette head coach Shaka Smart said in November that Jones was already taking part in 5-on-5 drills but Jones will have to wait until the next season before he can help the Golden Eagles again on the floor.
