Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard is in his second season with the franchise after spending his entire NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard never won an NBA title with Portland or Milwaukee yet, but he won an NBA In-Season Tournament in 2024 with the Bucks after they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the final.
When the Bucks started 2-8 this season, many were wondering if it was time to split up Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. However, it appears as if they have figured it out together. Milwaukee is 15-12 this season and has played better basketball over the last month.
CBS Sports Sam Quinn Has Milwaukee Bucks Damian Lillard As An Eastern Conference All-Star Reserve For 2025
The NBA All-Star Game format is going to be different this season compared to the old east-west format. There will be three teams of eight players, along with the winning team from the Rising Stars Challenge. Had the all-star game been the same old east-west format, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened.
Sam Quinn of CBS Sports would have Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard as a reserve for the Eastern Conference all-stars. Quinn said:
“We’ve already covered two of our reserve choices above. Brown and Lillard may miss out on starting nods, but they are easy picks for the roster. Lillard may not have developed the unstoppable pick-and-roll partnership with Antetokounmpo that we hoped he would upon joining the Bucks, but the two have grown significantly more comfortable coexisting offensively in more than a “your turn, my turn” arrangement. Lillard has looked like his Portland self for a month or so now. Brown looks like his typical self as well, though that should surprise no one. He’s not shooting especially well this season, but he remains very good at almost everything else. He’s averaging a career-high in assists while continuing to play his standard, excellent defense. Like Tatum, his versatility is his selling point. Wings that are great at everything are almost automatic All-Stars.”
Damian Lillard has not been an all-star many times when he was in the Western Conference with the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard was the All-Star Game MVP last season for the Milwaukee Bucks. To go along with him as an all-star reserve in the Eastern Conference, the other reserves Quinn has are: Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jalen Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks, Derrick White of the Boston Celtics, and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons.
Season Numbers
This season, Damian Lillard is averaging 25.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 7.5 APG. He is also shooting 45.0% from the field. Lillard is ninth in the NBA this season in points per game and he is 10th in the NBA this season in assists per game.
Those numbers alone no question should allow him to be a reserve for the Eastern Conference all-stars. It would be a surprise to see Lillard not make it to the All-Star Game this season. Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo will likely be the 2025 All-Star Game representatives for this franchise.
