The Green Bay Packers are among the hottest teams in football.
Not only is Green Bay playing a complementary brand of football that has the potential to fuel a lengthy run at the Lombardi Trophy, and quarterback Jordan Love playing his best football of what has become a stellar season for the second-year starter, but the Packers’ ground game has become a bludgeoning tool for head coach Matt LaFleur.
Green Bay’s balance has been critical to their run of winning eight of the past ten games, but it has been veteran running back Josh Jacobs who has become a tone-setter.
Packers RB Josh Jacobs Dominating Key Stat
If there were any lingering skepticism about the Packers’ decision to go all-in on signing Josh Jacobs this offseason and allowing Aaron Jones to walk via free agency, the former rushing champion is putting those concerns further in the rearview each week.
Pro Football Focus points out that most of Jacobs’ success has come early in series’, and on early downs for the Packers, which certainly throws open LaFleur’s playbook for the offense.
“Josh Jacobs is setting the tone for the Packers offense on early downs,” Andrew Shaver, Michael Manning, Jason DeLoach, and Maurice Smith write for PFF. “As he has racked up 246 carries for 1,111 yards and 11 touchdowns on first and second down — all of which rank in the top three in the NFL.”
So far this season, Jacobs has already for 1,147 yards while tying a career-high with 12 rushing touchdowns. A catalyst for Green Bay’s success, Jacobs continues to prove that he’s an ideal fit for LaFleur’s offense and as a complement to Love.
