Packers’ Breakout Candidate Could Supercharge the Running Game

The Green Bay Packers‘ ground attack could be about to get a major boost in 2025.

One year removed from former rushing champion, Josh Jacobs, having one of the most prolific seasons of his career in his first season in a Packers uniform, if Green Bay’s offensive line makes big strides, the running game could become an even larger focal point of the offense.

After all, last season, Jacobs rushed for 1,329 yards with a career-high 15 touchdowns, and that was without Green Bay’s 2024 first-round draft choice making any impact whatsoever.

Could Jordan Morgan be the Packers’ 2025 Breakout Star?

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Jordan Morgan (77) blocks Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill (54) during the third quarter of their game Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 24-14.

Green Bay had high hopes for Morgan, selecting the 6-foot-5 and 311 pound tackle No. 25 overall last spring, but injuries derailed his rookie season.

According to A to Z Sports’ Wendell Ferreira, Morgan could be among the Packers’ top breakout candidates for 2025.

“In the 186 snaps Morgan did play on offense, he was effective in pass protection,” Ferreira writes of Morgan. “Allowing seven pressures, and but underwhelming in run blocking. Healthier, the expectation is that Morgan will not only play and start, but be a real contributor to elevate the offense.

“In mandatory minicamp, for instance, Morgan started at left tackle in both practices. It’s still not a guarantee that he will take over in spite of Rasheed Walker, but that would certainly be the preferred outcome for the Packers.”

If Morgan is fully healthy and makes big strides as a run-blocker, it could raise the ceiling both on Jacobs’ expectations for the 2025 campaign and the Packers’ offense overall this season and beyond.
