A former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle is unretiring this season after not being with a team since the 2020 regular season. The move came as the Indianapolis Colts are trying to make a late run at the postseason after losing rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson earlier in the season.
The Colts need their offensive line to step up to keep backup quarterback Gardner Minshew upright this season. Offensive tackle Braden Smith was inactive for the Colts in Week 14 due to a knee injury. The Colts added depth to the offensive line Monday morning.
A former Green Bay Packers player signs with the Colts
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Colts signed veteran offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to the practice squad.
Jared Veldheer, 36, has appeared in 121 NFL games (114 starts). He last played in the NFL in the 2020 season, when he started a playoff game for the #Colts and then signed with the #Packers before landing on the COVID list. Now, back for another playoff push in Indy. https://t.co/cLoH2SkRYQ

The Oakland Raiders drafted Veldheer in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played for the Packers in two stints. Veldheer played for the Packers in two games during the 2019 season. The Packers placed Veldheer on the COVID list in 2020. He retired from the NFL in 2021.
Veldheer will join a 7-6 Colts team that currently would hold the seventh seed in the AFC if the playoffs started. We’ll see if Veldheer can make his way to the Colts’ active roster after not playing in a game since the 2020 season.
