Not many are of the opinion that cornerback Jaire Alexander will be back in Green Bay next season. The 28-year-old has been on the decline over the last several years, primarily due to availability concerns. While on the field, Alexander is still capable of strong play, but some inconsistent performances and injury concerns that cannot be ignored have combined to make Alexander a likely departure this offseason. One AFC North team is emerging as a “strong suitor” for Alexander.

The Baltimore Ravens Are Reportedly Interested in Jaire Alexander
One of the better teams in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens are about to be in need of some reinforcements in the secondary. Passing defense was not one of the strong elements of first-year defensive coordinator Zachary Orr’s unit – they were 31st in passing yards allowed and 30th in pass plays of 20+ yards allowed. Taking a swing at a former Pro-Bowler might make some sense for the Ravens should he become available.

The Ravens already have an assembly of veteran corners on their roster. 28-year-old Marlon Humphrey has been with Baltimore his entire career, and while he is a respectable veteran, he has been subject to criticism in recent seasons. His bloated contract is also a cause for concern for some fans. The Ravens also acquired 30-year-old veteran Tre’Davious White early last year, but he did not become a significant contributor. White is set to hit free agency this offseason.
To make matters even more complex, starting corner Brandon Stephens is also due to be a free agent. Stephens has been a decent player throughout his career and figures to draw interest from many teams. Reports indicate he may be keen to test the market and potentially leave the team. A potential reunion with former defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald in Seattle, where he is now the head coach, may be in the cards for Stephens.

Therefore, Alexander could become a potential addition. There’s no question that Alexander is a strong player when healthy, but the injury history is definitely a red flag. Alexander could join a group of promising young players in the secondary that include Kyle Hamilton, Ar’Darius Washington, and Nate Wiggins.
It’s worth noting that Alexander was college teammates with Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. They played together at Louisville and might be excited about reuniting.
Other Noise Surrounding Jaire Alexander
If the Packers do outright release Alexander, there will likely be multiple suitors courting him. The Los Angeles Chargers have been pegged as another team to watch for Alexander. They themselves dealt with an injured star in the secondary last year, when Asante Samuel Jr. missed most of the year with a shoulder problem.

Alexander would likely not fetch a hefty haul if the Packers were to trade him, due to his injury history but also his large contract. The former Louisville Cardinal is due almost $16 million next year, which escalates to $18 million the following year. The won’t be many teams of the opinion that Alexander is worth that much.
Rumors will continue to swirl as the offseason wears on. Alexander could become one of the bigger names on the market if the Pack were to move on.
