The Green Bay Packers are moving on from a veteran they hoped would infuse veteran leadership and steady playmaking ability for coordinator Jeff Hafley’s defense.
As the Packers continued to trim the roster closer to the initial 53 for Week 1, Green Bay released veteran linebacker/safety Isaiah Simmons.
Packers Move On From Isaiah Simmons

The Packers signed Simmons this offseason, but the veteran won’t be playing a snap in Green Bay, after being released on Tuesday.
Simmons has largely underachieved, since being chosen No. 8 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals, and this summer never quite found a home in Hafley’s front seven.
After spending the past two seasons with the New York Giants, playing both linebacker and safety, the Packers clearly believed there was more than the 21 tackles with one forced fumble that Simmons posted last season, but he did not do enough during training camp or the preseason to secure a roster spot.
Ahead of the 2025 season kicking off, all signs point to Edgerrin Cooper and Isaiah McDuffie emerging as the Packers’ starting outside linebackers.
